Let's say I'm now at school to become a statistician of the INSEE (the French national institute of statistics : it is doing surveys, economic studies, all that sort of things)

... Anyway, I may be actually working 2 years from now, this sounds weird

Well, it's very good English, very nice to read such balanced sentences, and the narrator always watches the society with some recoil, and even irony : it is very pleasant to read, if you have any opportunity of reading one of her books (the most famous of them are Pride and Prejudice, from which a film with Keira Knightley was adapted, and also Sense and Sensibility, let alone Persuasion and Mansfield Park !)

As far as I remember, they are really cool novels, dealing with relationships between people (especially between men and women) and the place of the women in the England of the 18th century.

... by the way, my favorite novel by Jane Auten is Pride and Prejudice, I don't know what's yours, Lili ?

(... altough I have not read them all yet, shame on me )

Anyway, there are lots of authors I have never read either, and I often see how much I still have to learn to pretend being more than a superficial boaster to me

I like this author too ^_^ I read Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion (on top of that I have the VO version because of an error when I wanted to buy it in French in internet but I am unable to read it Razz

I guess you're right : it's quite hard to read a whole book in a foreign language, especially when you consider some big classical monument of literature

... I've started Sense and Sensiblity yesterday (in French, my apologizes ), and I may say it is quite similar to Pride and Prejudice in the descriptions and the way Austen depicts people so far... What a pity that I don't have lots of time to spend in readings by now

And don't worry about making mistakes here, no one is going to bite you (well, at least, I am not ). If necessary, we would be glad to help you improving your expression(and I'm learning too, even while teaching ).
I hope you'll be able to fulfill your dreams anyway ! (just keep up, and you'll see your improvements very soon )

... Oh and by the way, there's a little mistake in your signature : the word "username" should be in capitals, so as for the code to work : Invité $Clin d\'oeil$

And just to suport Nakumi, everybody may do mistakes, but some mistakes are less obvious than others (and no mistake is really serious when you're willing to correct it ).

I mean both the control over the behaviours (with, say, a coercive attitude towards non-conform people), and the control over the minds (via, for example, the poverty of thought that is claimed by so much to be the norm nowadays) ?

... Oh, yes, and subsidiary question Did you read the novel by Haruki Murakami entitled 19Q4, by the way ? I was wondering if it was time-worthy (although I have ~~several~~ many other books to read first, but... ).

I wanted to read 1984 (a friend spoke about it a long time because she had to read it for her philosophy courses) but there are too many books to read and that's why when i'm tired I'd rather like reading magazines or comics or mangas ._. (it's easier to read it ^^)
I read an article about 19Q4 in a magazine xDD but i don't remember what It had said =°
(It's possible I made some mistakes Razz

a few minor corrections, though ^^:
... I you allow me to destroy some little pernicious mistakes : you should say "a friend spoke about it for a long time", because you mention a duration, and "I'd rather ~~like reading~~ read", because "would rather" expresses already the idea of preference $Clin d\'oeil$

By the way, was the article you read about 19Q4 the one written by Amélie Nothomb ?... Hell, I can't find it on the Internet... She makes fun of people finding Murakami's books "not Japanese enough", this is just brilliant
